Burning Your Candles Safely
The above 8oz mason gets an A+ for minimal wax waste and clean burn, but fails on candle safety. Your candle should have nothing in it, save for that wick and cute sprinkle of glitter on top. Anything else is a fire hazard. It doesn't sound like it could be, but it is.
I know, I know, it's so much easier to pinch the wick and let it fall into your candle. And you're probably doing eighty-five other things when you light a candle and don't want to toss the still-smoking match into your wastebasket, but tossing it into your candle is a huge no-no, too. Not only can it catch on fire, it also makes your nice pretty candle start to look yucky with wick trimmings and matches littering the top.
What to do instead?
Purchase a candle lighter or utility lighter.
Flip your mason lid upside down, read the warning label that's adhered to the underside of it, wink-wink, and put your wick trimmings and matches in that. (just remember to empty that lid before you cover your candle!)
Burning a cube, After Dark or Cape Cod Luxe? Use an old ashtray or small dish to hold your trimmings. I use clamshells for mine!
Run water over your match after lighting your candle and then toss in trash.
Candle-burning, when done safely, is relaxing, can enhance your mood, and give ambiance to many rooms in your house. ;)
